Week of Oct. 6

Events:
-October 15 Dismiss at 2:15
-Oct. 17 {Mrs. B’s (our student teacher) last day}
-Oct. 27 and 30 Conferences

-Oct. 30 Fall Party

Notes:
-This week we participated in the Healthiest State Initiative. Each year for the past three years, nearly 300,000 Iowans have participated in 1-kilometer walks to show that we were ready for a healthier Iowa.
-With the gym completed we are able to use it during our morning recess if the weather outside is rainy.  Your child will need a pair of tennis shoes to use in the gym. 

BUILD (continued)
B (Buddy Games)-Students played penny-nickel exchange.  Students rolled a dice and collected that amount of pennies.  When they had five pennies they traded them in for a nickel.
U (Using manipulatives)-Students manipulated foam pattern blocks into shapes.
I( Independently Working)- Students rolled a dice and doubled the number then colored in the corresponding box.
L(Learning with Numbers)- Students worked with Mrs. B to complete story problems.
D (Doing Math)- Students used the website Scootpad to practice math that is linked to the Iowa Common Core standards.

 Week in Review:
- This week we read the book Stellaluna.  Throughout the book we stopped and discussed several differences from the birds in the story and Stellaluna, the bat.
-We have started assessing for report cards.  I am pleased with the progress we have made.
-In math we learned about how to count on from the biggest number in an equation.  Students are doing a great job of counting on!!!
-In science we finished our unit on solids, liquids, and gases.  Students learned about examples of each state of matter.
