Week of Aug. 25

Events:
-September 1 No School
-September 3 dismiss at 2:15

-September 10 dismiss at 2:15

Notes:
-Please make sure to initial planners each night.
-This week we started Hawk Books.  Please record minutes they read in the back of their planners.
-Homework started this week.  We will have homework on Monday and Tuesday nights each week.
-We started King/Queen of the Day this week.  We will slowly work through the class, one student per day.  Please watch in your child’s bag for a questionnaire to complete. 

 What’s Happening in Daily 5:
* We have begun practicing all our dailies in small groups.  We have been enjoying Listen to Reading, Read to Self, and Read to Someone. 
*During our word work time we have been matching pictures to the correct beginning sound. 
*Work on writing this week has consisted of setting writing expectations. 

 Week in Review:
- This week we continued reviewing our numbers and shapes.  We learned about how to break apart a number.  Example: 1+3=4.
-We have continued our review of letter identification and sounds.

Week of Aug. 20

Events:
-Wednesday, August 27 Dismiss at 2:15
-Friday, August 29 Dismiss at 2:15

-Monday, Sept. 1 No School (Labor Day)

Notes:
-With it being so warm outside feel free to send a water bottle with your child.  Please make sure their name is written on the water bottle someplace.
-Homework will come home on Monday’s and Tuesday’s in the clear homework folder. 
-All other mail will come home daily with their planner in their backpacks.
-Sometime next week we start Hawk Books.  Please watch for a plastic bag with directions.

What’s Happening in Daily 5:
* We have just begun our Daily 5 adventure.  Students will be busy completing meaningful literacy tasks.  The choices will be: Read to Self, Listen to Reading, and Read to Someone.  Right now we are focusing on building stamina to work independently. 

 Week in Review:
- Thank you to those who were able to come to Open House.  It was great to meet the families.
-This week we have been busy learning routines and procedures.
-We have read a few new poems this week.  We have practiced reading them as an echo (I read, then they read), chorally (all together), and a silly way (like a boss or a cowboy).
-We have toured the new addition and are enjoying eating in our new lunchroom.
