Week of Oct. 13

Events:
-Oct. 27 and 30 Conferences (Student led so please bring your child.)
-Oct. 30 Fall Party

Notes:
-Thank you for all the paper towel rolls.  I have received enough for us to start our project. 
-This week Mrs. Patton came to our room and discussed facts about bats with us.  We learned several interesting facts about bats.  Ask your child what they learned.
-Next Friday, Oct. 24 I will be gone for a meeting. 

-This week I have checked out some new listen to reading activities from our AEA.  I checked out tag readers as well as play-alongs.  Students are really enjoying these new activities.

 BUILD
B (Buddy Games)- Students used egg cartons with beans and shook them.  Then they added the two numbers that the beans landed.
 U (Using manipulatives)- Students decided if a pumpkin equation was true or false.
I( Independently Working)- Students used tangrams to fit into different shapes.
L(Learning with Numbers)- Students worked with myself to complete story problems.
D (Doing Math)- Students used the website Scootpad to practice math that is linked to the Iowa Common Core standards.

Week in Review:
- We have continued our study with the book Stellaluna.  This week we worked on breaking the book into the beginning, middle, and end and then retold the story.
-In science we started a new unit on animal groups.  We started this week talking about mammals.  We have learned that mammals have a backbone, have hair/ fur, and give birth to live babies. 
-In math we have been learning about basic subtraction.  We have learned what it means to take away and how to write a subtraction equation with the minus sign.
