News from First Grade

Upcoming Events:

*Feb. 12 2 hr. early out

*Feb. 14 Valentine’s Day (a list of names will be coming soon)

*Feb. 17 School Day (This is a make up day.)

Notes:

*Reminder: When you come to volunteer please stop by the office and let Mrs. Siemers know you are here and pick up a visitor’s badge.  When you are done volunteering please stop in and tell her you are leaving.

*The Bedtime Pajama Drive is still going on through Feb. 13.  Students can bring in a new pair of pajamas and a new book.  Delivers to Mason City hospital and Palo Alto County Hospital will be around Valentine’s Day.

What we have been up to:

Reading:  We are working on the skill long o this week.  Students sorted words and made lists of words with the long o.

Math: We have continued our study with the hundreds chart.  We are learning about adding ten using the patterns instead of counting on with fingers.

Science/ Social Studies: This week we started the week learning about Martin Luther King and some significant things that he did.  We have continued our unit of study on United States symbols.  We talked about national holidays that we have in the United States.
