Week of Jan. 14


Upcoming Events:
J Jan. 21 Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Notes:
J Word Work activities this week included: a word sort with str- and st- words.  A scramble word building activity and word shapes.
JNext week the pajama and book drive starts.  Please send these items with your child to school and they can place them in the correct container.  Donations will go to Palo Alto County Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
J We have been reviewing our E’Hawk boundaries: Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect this Place.

Things to Work on:
J Adding with a missing addend.  Example: 8+___=12

What we have been up to:
Reading: This week we worked on the beginning sounds: str-, spl-, and scr-.  This will be the last week in which if students pass the spelling pretest they did not have to take the post test on Friday.  Starting next week students who pass the spelling pretest will be given a challenge test for the week to study and be tested on Friday. 
Math: This week in math we continued our study on graphs.  We have worked on comparing 3 or more numbers.  Students have been working on which has the most and fewest.  This week we reviewed greater than, less than, and equal to.
Science/ Social Studies: We have continued our study on United States symbols: liberty bell, bald eagle, Washington monument, white house, and statue of liberty.  Students were able to make a paper plate wheel showing all the symbols.
