Week of April 15

Upcoming Events:
JMay 1 Field Trip to Nature Center
JMay 3 Track Day at High School (leave school around 10:00)

Notes:
JLiteracy night was a fun night.  Thanks to everyone who came!
JFriday we walked to the high school for the band concert.  Students were very well behaved in the auditorium.
JSome of our word works this week involved Scrabble Soup, Candyland with sightwords, wikki stick words, and /er/, /ir/, /ur/ sorts.

Things to Work on:
J Recycling paper, plastic, cardboard, et.

What we have been up to:
Reading: This we worked on the spelling features /ou/ and /ow/.  Our theme this week was about bugs.  This was a good review for us as we learned about insects in the fall.  Students brainstormed what they knew about insects/ bugs and worked on writing paragraphs.
Math: Our story problems this week involved three addends as well as two different operations.  This really is requiring students to read story problems carefully and think about how to solve the problem.  Each day we were able to have BUILD time.  Some of our BUILD activities involved: graphing with m&m’s, subtracting with beans and egg cartons, and math scootpad.
Science/ Social Studies: This week we started talking about our new science unit on Earth.  We started with reviewing some map features that we had talked about with our maps unit.  After reviewing map vocabulary we were able to label the continents, oceans, and lakes.
